HCPCS code A4481(tracheostoma filter, any type any size, each) describes a soft foam filter designed to provide air filtration for the tracheal stoma. In the past a claim filed for A4481 was subject to the usual maximum of one filter per day. This restriction of "usual maximum" has been removed and after October 1, 2000, Medicare will pay 80% of whatever a medical doctor prescribes for a tracheostoma patient to filter, heat or humidify the stoma. Now if an M.D. will prescribe ten changes per day it
will be paid for in part by Medicare Part B. You know the restrictions: This ruling affects such products as supplied for
the stoma by: If you want to look all this news up on the
internet, http://www.cignamedicare.com/dmerc/dlog1998/w This news is of great concern to my company because we accept assignment of Medicare claims for the products we sell except Necklaces, Newsletters & Videos. One restriction still exists: (Only orders for a 90 day supply will be accepted.) Every Medicare recipient has met their Medicare Part B deductible for the year 2000 by now. Notify your doctor of the change in policy by Medicare and ask for a new prescription, detailing your daily use of stoma care products. Explain how your daily use differs at different times during the day and during some activities. Send me proof you have met the deductible for the year 2000 and 20% of the order, if we have your Medicare information on file, we will accept the 20% as full payment and collect the balance from Medicare. Or if you have a secondary that pays the 20% just call our Medicare/insurance office and order your needs. Our insurance toll free number is 1-800-295-0094. |

The number of Stoma Care Products you can purchase at one time depends upon the prescription written by your Physician. Based on our prices for the year 2000: One per day use in a 90 day period allows you to purchase $33.00 in Stoma Care products, Two per day use in a 90 day period is $66.00, Three per day use in a 90 day period is $99.00, Four per day use in a 90 day period is $132.00. Remember whatever your Medical Doctor orders you can purchase that amount every ninety days, and Medicare will pay 80% of the cost after the yearly deductible has been met. If you have a secondary medical insurance it may pay the balance. I am speaking about Medicare part B which costs you almost $50.00 per month. This is a way of feeling good and/or better using your Health insurance. I am enclosing in this newsletter a prescription form for the next time you see your doctor. |
Lets talk about batteries. Medicare will buy two every six months. Oh, I know you have used the same batteries for many more than six months and you bought them for 20 or 24 or 36 dollars. But did you receive 80% back from Medicare on your purchase? I will accept the assignment of all Medicare claims for the products I sell. If you paid $20.00 your cost would have been $4.00, $4.80 or $7.20 not 20, 24 or 36 dollars. Use your insurance, don't pay for it and ignore collecting for your battery purchases. Naturally like the United States Post Office we will be raising our prices for the year 2001.. A 33¢ stamp will cost 34¢ after the first of the year. We are doing the same, Medicare's allowable price for A4481 is 37¢ each and we will be raising our prices to that amount. 90 Foam Filters times 37¢ is $33.00 which is your cost in the year 2001. |
