W. C. Fields said, “If you don’t drink,
when you wake up in
the morning, this is as good as you will feel the whole day.”
Or maybe it was someone else but the fact remains when a
laryngectomee wakes up in the morning, they feel good.
But after their morning hot shower they will feel the best.
Coughing out the debris inhaled the
previous day is important to their well being.
A hot shower with good lighting is very important.
Seeing the stoma clearly makes it easier to clean.
For this reason I am enclosing Shower Collar literature.
I recommend new laryngectomees try one of our shower collars and
for best results use a Foam Filter under the shower collar.
You will be surprised how good you will feel just standing in the
hot shower and breathing in the warm moist air.

Please give our order form to the

Medicare.

The last time I looked, it was
Christmas in the year 2000, now it is March
2001. Where does the time go
when you are having fun? We
lost a lot of friends in the year 2000 and I hope it will not continue at
the same rate this year.
You have to remember that more
than 50% of us are over 65 and facing the grim facts that Medicare is
cutting back all the time, not just in the amount Medicare pay but in the
ways they pay. Medicare sets
the standards for all Major Medical Insurance.
So we must be alert to the little changes that are being made.
If you have had any battery claims
denied in the year 2000. Please let me know. Medicare
has been denying claims since May 2000.
Batteries are a covered item and we are filing the claims
correctly. However, they are
being denied anyway. The only
way at this time is to file a review.
Please, if you have had any
batteries denied this year, send me a copy of the Medicare EOB showing the
denial and I will file a review for you. Better still, if you have met your deductible for this year
send me a copy and a check for 20% of the order and I will accept your
Medicare Claim Assignment. Let
me fight with Medicare.
These subtle changes are happening
all the time and if they are overlooked by the Medicare recipient, then
the next time policy is made by HFCA, the changes become the new rules.
Now Medicare will buy two
batteries every six months for an artificial larynx for a period of five
years. At the end of five
years Medicare will allow a new artificial larynx to be purchased and the
new one should come with two batteries for the Medicare allowable price,
because Medicare will not purchase any more batteries for six months.
Medicare will also pay for any
repairs to the artificial larynx that has purchased been with a Medical
Doctor prescription for a period of five years.
If these rules are overlooked by the Medicare recipient, this
allows Medicare to change the rules.
Here is where the support groups
come in handy, they know the rules and can help you with any Medicare
problems. If they don’t
know they can ask one of their members who has gone through the same
experience recently. Visit
any support group, laryngectomee preferred, in your area.
If you can’t get any
satisfaction on your own or through your support group, Please call our
claims office @ 1-800-295-0094. Or
better still buy your stoma care products from me and I will accept your
Medicare claim assignment, and you pay only 20% after this year’s
deductible has been met.
Medicare allows the use of one
Foam Filter per day with a Medical Doctor’s prescription.
If you use more, ask your physician to document your needs on the
in prescription form. I will
accept assignment for any Stoma Care products your physician will
prescribe.
Many of you have a secondary
insurance that covers your 20% and/or the deductible.
If you make our claims office aware of your current insurance
coverage, all that is required to place an order is a toll free phone
call.
An example of how Medicare
influences the other Major Medical Insurance is the way prescriptions are
dispensed these days. Normally
you could buy a bottle of 100 tablets and now the limit
is a one month’s supply. A
little annoyance for those of us that take pills daily.
We don’t always remember purchase a new supply when we are at the
pharmacy. We
run out and have to make a special trip to the pick up a new supply
.

the year, a pleasant surprise gift has been
included. This is my way of
saying thank you. The 29 successful years of selling stoma care products has
been a great pleasure. I
never thought for a minute as I designed the Foam Filter, that it would be
so widely imitated and accepted in the
laryngectomy community.
